Under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Government of India is providing free electricity connections to BPL households. Out of total 4.27 crore connections sanctioned, free electricity connections to 2.5 crore BPL households have been provided as on 31.10.2016 under the scheme. India becomes Associate Member of CERN, Geneva India and European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) signed an agreement today making India an Associate Member State of CERN . Several step taken to Expedite Land Acquisition for National Highways In order to expedite land acquisition as required for projects of road and highway construction, expansion and upgradation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has close co-ordination and liaison with the State Governments. Several steps have been taken to address issues that lead to delay in land acquisition, and various directions have been issued, which are as under : - 1.        Determination of the amount of compensation in consonance with the relevant provisions contained in the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition in Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 with effect from 01.01.2015; 2.        Providing the necessary technical and organisational support to the revenue authorities in the State Government; 3.        Appointment of additional officers as Competent Authority for Land Acquisition and Arbitrator for expediting acquisition; 4.   ...

ESIC Approves the Enhancement of Wage Ceiling from Present Rs. 15,000 per Month to Rs. 21,000 The Employees State Insurance Corporation(ESIC) has approved the enhancement of wage ceiling from present Rs. 15,000 per month to Rs. 21,000/-. The draft Rules calling for objections has been published in Gazette of India on 06.10.2016. This enhancement of wage ceiling shall bring more employees under ESIC coverage. In addition, the decision has also been taken to ensure coverage of the Scheme in all districts of the Country. The ESIC in its meeting dated 07/08/2015 has decided to bear the expenses on super specialty treatment over and above the expenditure of state government. The ESIC in its 166th Corporation meetings held on 07.08.2015 has decided to consider eligibility of pre existing diseases i.e. for malignancy & dialysis as prospective w.e.f. 30.08.2016. The Ministry is operating 389 toll plazas out of which about 265 toll plazas have the facility of toilets and drinking water for use of public. Further, a large no. of Hotels, Restaurants, Dhabas etc. have been developed by private sectors along NHs where the facility of toilets and drinking water is available for use of road commuters .  The Ministry is in the process of formulating a policy on Wayside Amenities across the length of National Highways wherein amongst other amenities, toilets and drinking water facilities will be provided . Further, the Ministry is in the process of providing toilets and litter bins at all Toll Plazas in the current FY 2016-17 as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission . Improvement of 1500 Old Bridges planned under Setu Bhartam Scheme The government has established Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS) for inventorization and condition survey of all bridges on National Highways. Under Setu Bhartam Scheme, improvement of approximately 1500 bridges have been planned for construction, reconstruction or strengthening, as required . A total number of 801 workshops/ symposiums/ seminars/ training programmes have been organized by various Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) supported by the Government during the last three years and the current year. A total amount of Rs.35.64 crore have been released to these TRIs and an amount of Rs.25.14 crore have been utilized during the last three years and the current year. Various activities such as skill development, Craft Mela, exhibitions and exposure programmes for tribal artists and artisans, computer basics, weaving technology, beautician skills, awareness camps on education and health etc. for tribal people have been undertaken through these TRIs. INS Chennai, a P 15A Guided Missile Destroyer, was commissioned into the Indian Navy by India's Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar at an impressive ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai today. The event marks the formal induction into the Navy of the third and the last of the three "Kolkata" class destroyers, indigenously designed by the Indian Navy in-house organisation, Directorate of Naval Design and constructed by Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai. On his arrival, the Raksha Mantri was received by Admiral Sunil Lanba, the Chief of the Naval Staff and was presented a Guard of Honour by the ship's crew.
