Railways to Dispose Solid Waste Through Sewage Treatment Plants; Two Pilot Projects Announced

Railways have proposed a pilot project for disposal of municipal solid waste generated at railway terminals in an environment friendly manner, including conversion of waste to energy. New Delhi and Jaipur Railway Stations have been identified for setting up pilot plants. Quantum of energy generated will depend upon the technology adopted for the pilot plant. Bio gas or electricity are the two possible forms of energy to be generated from these plants which would be utilized for suitable services at/near Railway Station.

Water level of 91 major reservoirs of India goes down by one percent

The water storage available in 91 major reservoirs of the country for the week ending on November 24, 2016 was 105.209 BCM, which is 67% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. This was 125% of the storage of corresponding period of last year and 97% of storage of average of last ten years.

Series of steps announced by NHAI to remove Hurdles for Faster Execution of Projects

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways 03-May, 2016 12:45 IST Ministry of Road Transport & Highways announced few basic measures to improve speed of execution of road projects under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). To speed up the projects, NHAI has delegated powers to its Regional Officers for hiring of equipment and laborers up to Rs.10 lacs per project , to demolish structures that fall within the right-of-way of the project. As some of the contracts had no provision for demolition of such structures, there would often be protracted correspondence between the contractors, Project Directors and NHAI headquarters before these could be removed, often leading to delay in execution of projects . With this delegation of power to ROs NHAI will be able to make encumbrance free land available more speedily to the concessionaire/contractors as laid down under the concession agreement or contract.
